Sharper graphics and text
Screenshots, diagrams, logos and anything with text or hard edges look cleaner as PNG. JPG compression tends to leave fuzzy halos around sharp lines.
Important: Converting does not bring back detail that was already lost. The PNG will faithfully preserve the image exactly as the JPG currently looks, including any existing compression artifacts.
JPG vs PNG: Which Format Should You Use?
| Use JPG when | Use PNG when |
|---|---|
| Storing photographs | The image needs transparent areas |
| File size matters most | Quality must be preserved exactly |
| Sharing on social media | The image contains text or interface elements |
| Sending email attachments | Working with screenshots and diagrams |
| Publishing photos on the web | Working with logos and flat graphics |
How to Convert JPG to PNG
- Select files. Choose up to 20 JPG images, or drag them into the drop area.
- Convert. Press Convert and the images are processed instantly in your browser.
- Save. Save each PNG separately, or press Save All to download everything.
Tip: PNG files are usually much larger than the JPG they came from, sometimes five to ten times. This is normal because PNG does not use lossy compression.
Common Use Cases
- Photo editing workflow: convert to PNG before heavy editing, then export a final JPG for sharing.
- Creating graphics: bring photos into design software as PNG and combine them with transparent elements.
- Archiving: store important images as PNG to avoid quality loss from repeated saves.
- Documentation: use PNG for screenshots so text and edges stay crisp.
About Transparency
Converting a JPG to PNG does not make the background transparent. The result keeps the same solid background as the original. To get transparency you need to:
- Convert the image to PNG first so no further quality is lost.
- Remove the background in an image editor.
- Save again as PNG to keep the transparent areas.
